Yes, Taekwon-Do is safe for beginners when taught by experienced instructors in a controlled environment. At Hollingsworth Taekwon-Do, safety is our top priority. We start with fundamental techniques, emphasise proper form, and ensure a gradual progression as you build skills. With the right guidance and respect for your training partners, Taekwon-Do is a safe and enjoyable martial art for all skill levels.
For your first class, just wear something comfortable that you can move easily in, like a t-shirt and joggers or leggings. Avoid anything too baggy or restrictive. Once you decide to continue, you’ll be able to get a proper Taekwon-Do uniform (dobok).
We offer two classes per week, which provides the perfect balance for steady progress without being overwhelming. Most students attend both sessions, as training regularly helps build confidence, improve fitness, and retain skills more effectively. As you develop, you’ll find that twice-weekly classes give you plenty of time to practice, progress through the belts, and reach your goals.
I’ve been part of Taekwon-Do for over 13 years, starting my journey back in 2012 as a Mini Master and progressing through every stage of the program. Along the way, I’ve been fortunate to achieve incredible milestones, including becoming a Double Junior World Champion in 2019, winning multiple British titles, and earning European and World medals.
For the past six years, I’ve also been teaching and assisting in classes, sharing my love for Taekwon-Do with the next generation. I’m passionate about helping students develop discipline, confidence, and balance in life through the tenets of Taekwon-Do - both on and off the mats.
Opening my club in Guildford is a dream come true, giving me the chance to build a positive, welcoming space where students of all ages can grow, just as I did.
